The iconic movie-musical returns to the West End in David Gilmore's gorgeously Technicolor production which had a seven-year run in the 1990s. It's pretty much a note-for-note remake of the movie, and though it misses some John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's charm, it more than makes up for it in energetic dance set-pieces, great singing and wonderful sets and costumes. Above all, it serves as a reminder of just how wonderful the over-familiar songs are, bringing fresh life to 'Grease Is The Word', 'You're The One That I Want', 'Greased Lightning', 'Hopelessly Devoted To You', and 'Sandy'. A fantastic piece of retro 1950s fun.
The cast now features special guest star Ray Quinn as Doody from ITV's The X-Factor.
Cast information: Danny Bayne will continue until 17th January 2009. Ray Quinn performs until 15th November 2008. Jimmy Osmond will play Teen Angel 19th January to 14th March 2009. |
